Support the Project

The School benefits from Limerick Regeneration Agencies’ assistance with its revenue costs and from the Limerick Economic Development Partnership for its workshop space. From time to time, we have been able to attract other support, which we acknowledge later in the website.

Every moment of every day, however, is devoted to enhancing the workshop experience of our participants and building that pathway forwards which is so essential to their successful progression. We provide materials for building new curraghs. We scour the world for recyclable wood for the restoration project. We intend to start a second School and to prove our vision for digitally involving participants elsewhere. We have already trained 150 young people and adults in our workshops. Within the next three years we shall have introduced 150more young people to sailing a traditional boat at sea.

If you can help us build that pathway… Well, if you can, then thank you. Thank you from everyone who comes through our doors.

Wooden Plank Sponsorship

Planking is one of the largest tasks of refitting the good ship Ilen. It forms the outer skin of the vessel and her deck structure. Sponsorship of a plank is a meaningful way for you to support the project.

Sponsor a plank for €50/foot

  • 1 foot = €50
  • 5 feet = €250
  • 10 feet = €500
  • 20 feet = €1,000
  • 100 feet = €5,000

Sponsors will receive a signed Builder’s Certificate in recognition of their donation.

The AK Ilen Company is recognised by the Revenue Commissioners of Ireland as a charitable organisation (CHY 13607). All plank ownership donations are tax deductible.
