On 27 May 2011, the finished deckhouse was brought from the School in Limerick to the Boatyard, to coincide with the Baltimore wooden sailing boats week-end.
The carved scroll work to be fitted to the transom of the AK Ilen following restoration of the hull.
Our ‘framing out’ ceremony is an ancient custom more associated with the fitting of the last frame to an inert wooden building – but on this occasion it will commemorate the placement by the shipwrights of an oak branch on the Ilen’s stem to mark progress with the build of our good ship.
This incredible 658 page book is the result of a combined effort by a team of Irish people who are passionate about the rich diversity of traditional boat types throughout the country
