About Us
Project Outline
- The A.K. Ilen Company shall undertake educational programmes in traditional boatbuilding, sailing and maritime traditions
- It is proposed to refurbish and refit the Ilen to her original sailing condition and rig as far as is compatible with contemporary safety standards
- It is further proposed to continue to operate the Ilen as a sailing vessel, bringing seafaring traditions back to coastal, inner city and other communities
- To encourage and facilitate interested parties and particularly young people to sail on the Ilen thereby keeping alive the techniques of working a traditional Irish sailing vessel so that skills from a vibrant and sustainable past may be transmitted to a viable and sustainable future.
- The A.K. Ilen Company is the owner of the Ilen and will manage her sailing programme
